2023 et cetera... blog recap

Written by Rachel Frederick | Dec 28, 2023 3:31:00 PM

We find ourselves once again at the end of the year. This is the time when we look back and take stock of what we’ve accomplished, the milestones we’ve hit, the people we’ve met, the music we’ve listened to, and recount our favorite memories. We at ETC are, once again, jumping on that bandwagon with a look back at our blog stories of 2023.

We’ll look at some of the series, interviews, and installation features we wrote about this year; and top it off with a couple of our staff favorites. Here’s to a great 2023!

Stage Lighting Design Series

Welcome to the fascinating world of stage lighting, where we take you on a journey through the essential aspects of lighting design. From the very basics of light and color to the technological innovations that help you to bring your artistic vision to life.

Whether you're an aspiring lighting designer, a theatre enthusiast, or simply curious about the art, we've got you covered. This year, we published the first six parts of this series, but don’t worry – as one of our most popular series of all time, there are more planned for 2024!

Stage Lighting Design, Part 1: Introduction to Lighting
Stage Lighting Design, Part 2: Objectives of Lighting Design
Stage Lighting Design, Part 3: Controllable Properties of Light
Stage Lighting Design, Part 4: Types of Lights
Stage Lighting Design, Part 5: Lighting Angles
Stage Lighting Design, Part 6: Color

An Array of Choices

Looking for more of a technical deep dive into the science of light? Check out this three-part series from ETC’s own Wendy Luedtke and Declan Randall.

An Array of Choices Part 1: Narrowband emitters
An Array of Choices Part 2: Broadband emitters
An Array of Choices Part 3: Mint and White

Top et cetera… blog post of the year

This post was from guest blogger and Lighting Designer Mike Wood. For the past few years, Mike and his team have been working extensively with followspots that are controlled through the lighting console. This post is full of tips, tricks, and things they learned after countless experiments with Eos consoles and followspots.

More Eos tips and tricks

To piggyback on the Eos tips and tricks, we have one more series from earlier in the year – a four-part series on Eos Template Show File Creation. Have we mentioned how much we love that you love our consoles?

Eos Template Show File Creation: Setup and Snapshots
Eos Template Show File Creation: Palettes
Eos Template Show File Creation: Custom Direct Selects
Eos Template Show File Creation: Advanced Functions

2023 staff picks

Two blog articles stood out for our ETC staff this year, and we couldn’t let the new year rush in without bringing them back to the top of the list. In case you missed them, the first is an interview with RuPaul’s Drag Race lighting designer, Gus Dominguez.

And the second is a story about the famous French luxury design house, Hermès, and the unveiling of its annual theme. During the grand event, Lighting Designer Mathieu Cabanes chose Eos to work with the sunset and the collective (LA)HORDE in a series of performances scenographed by Julien Peissel.

Thanks for a great year; see you soon in 2024!
